Aleksandr Tsipko

Filosoof en essayist

De Russische filosoof Aleksandr Tsipko (Odessa, 1941) werkt aan het Instituut voor Economie van de Russische Academie van Wetenschappen in Moskou. Hij schreef 11 boeken (waaronder 'De bronnen van het stalinisme') en talloze artikelen over stalinisme, totalitarisme en Rusland. Publiceert nu in de Nezavisimaja Gazeta.

Tsipko noemt zichzelf een patriot. Jarenlang verafschuwde hij de Russische liberale intelligentsia met wie het Westen veelal praat. De annexatie van de Krim en de Russische inmenging in de Oekraïense Donbas deden hem van opvatting veranderen.

Sindsdien bekritiseert hij Poetins imperialisme in de krant Nezavisimaja Gazeta en windt zich op over de herwaardering van Stalin. Hij schuwt zelfs de parallellen tussen communisme en nazisme niet, in Rusland vloeken in de kerk.

Philosopher and political scientist

Alexander Tsipko is a Russian philosopher and political scientist (Odessa, 1941), working at the Institute of International Economic and Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. He wrote books on Stalinism and on the reforms of Gorbachev during the perestroyka.

In 1992 he assisted in founding the Gorbachev Fund and acted as its director of research programmes. In 2006 he was co-founder of the fund Vozvrashcheniye (‘Homecoming’), which supports the enhancement of historical traditions in Russia.

Aleksandr Tsipko regularly publishes essays in the Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
